The City 250 Challenge – searching for London’s fastest cyclist

The Deloitte Ride Across Britain City 250 Challenge was organised to find the capital’s fastest cyclist.  It was held on a chilly Wednesday at Finsbury Avenue Square under the watchful eyes of James Cracknell, Double Olympic Medalist Rebecca Romero and Paralympic flag bearer Danny Crates.

Glen Whitney achieved the highest speed, completing the challenge in just 13 seconds and 309 milliseconds. That result was achieved in a full suit!  The women’s title was claimed by Nicola Czwartos of the London Ambulance Service. Her time was 16.500.

With multiple people from the same companies coming down and professional pride (and a full set of Deloitte Ride Across Britain cycling kit) at stake the team prize was always going to be closely fought.  Contenders from Deutsche Bank, Aon, UBS, ECD Insight and Broadgate all went toe-to-toe but the team from Kirkland Ellis LLP of Justin Hutchinson, Chris Kennedy and Kay Sodeinde walked away with the spoils with an average time of 13.722.

The event was very well attended and no doubt many will go on to take part in the Deloitte Ride Across Britain. Although, 960 miles versus a  250 metre spring is going to be an entirely different challenge!
